David Black is responsible for emergency planning at University of Toronto, he has been in this position for 6 years. In this role David initiated a system-wide continuity planning process with the adoption of the University of California Restarting Berkeley software. This has evolved into Kuali Ready, now hosted software as a service tool used by more than 60 universities and colleges in North America and Australia. University of Toronto is the primary host for the service for Canadian institutions.

David is the current representative of Canada on the IAEM Universities and Colleges Caucus, was a founding member of the Conference Board of Canada’s Council on Emergency Management and is an advisor to Inclusiveness Canada.  David also holds memberships in DRIE and OAEM.  David is co-lead of the governance committee of CrisisCommons and has been involved in organizing and hosting CrisisCamps and Random Hacks of Kindness events in Toronto since the inception of those groups.

Prior to working in the emergency and continuity management field David was involved in the start up of numerous businesses in the food and beverage, and tourism sectors. David continues to have an interest in the Italian Wine Academy, a small business offering educational wine programs in Italy for travelling North Americans.

David holds an honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Guelph School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
